Workstation OS Choice
The SDK supports running applications on both:
- the target device (D7) and
- the development workstation (host)
Supported development environments are x86-64:
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or later
- Windows 11
The Core Libraries provide platform abstraction APIs for target device features such as IO, backlight etc.
APIs and Examples, for device features, support graceful degradation when run on the workstation.
When choosing, between Linux and Windows as a development environment, consider:
- The target device runs Linux, therefore a Linux development environment is more similar, than Windows.
- USB-CAN devices are supported on Linux host via SocketCAN, while proprietary CAN dlls on Windows host are currently unsupported.
- The Analog Video Examples using GStreamer qml6glsink or V4L2 also build for Linux host, but not Windows host.
If using Qt, that also enables applications to run on both the target device and the workstation.
- Note
- In order to use Qt libraries you must have your own Qt development and distribution licenses. Please refer to https://www.qt.io/qt-licensing for more information.
