Applying a software update on a device

The following are the supported ways to apply a software update image to the device.

Via a USB drive

Note
The board must already be powered on when you plug in the USB. This is to stop the device entering an update loop.

This is the canonical way to apply a software update to the D7.

You will need a USB-C drive formatted as FAT32 or ext4. Make sure there are no other files or folders on it, then copy the .swu file onto it. The device will process any file with a .swu extension and pass it through to the validator.

Plug it into the USB port on the device and the update should begin automatically.

Via the web interface (Experimental)

Note
This method is experimental. Currently it will not give any visual feedback on the device during the update. This method is only available in development images.

The web interface for applying software updates is hosted on the device and listening on port 8080.

Assuming the device's IP address is known, in a browser navigate to http://<D7's IP address>:8080. Drag and drop the update-image.swu file created at the previous step onto the file drop area. The update will start automatically.
