Product Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary

Veethree Technologies is an established SME business with an international customer base, the company is a fast moving, forward thinking design, manufacturing and software organisation that has a dynamic team that provide bespoke software and product applications to its clients. Due to the continued growth of the company we are seeking to bring industrial design and mechanical engineering in house for the first time.  You will be a key member of the engineering team and will develop the next generation of connected industrial and marine products, working closely with our software and electronics engineers to design aesthetically pleasing yet robust product design for harsh marine and industrial products.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and design product concepts.
  • Create models and drawings for protype and production manufacturing of a range of display products.
  • Design optimisation for performance, manufacturability and cost.
  • Design equipment housings to meet harsh environmental requirements.
  • Working with electronics designers develop novel, cost effective thermal and packaging solutions.
  • Develop, conform and maintain company’s engineering design rules, development guidelines and the product development process.
  • Ensure that development work adheres to the requirements of project design specifications and other supporting documentation.
  • Play an active role in projects, team meetings etc. Liaise with other cross functional team members, suppliers and other interested parties throughout projects and encourage their involvement and participation.
  • Develop test plans to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Participate and where necessary lead design reviews, communicate ideas and solutions, influence decisions and problem solving.
  • Test, validate and document design solutions ensuring they are robust and reliable by using appropriate tools and techniques and evaluate outcomes and act as required.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical files as new products are designed, or existing products are changed.
  • Have a detailed and thorough understanding of our own products, and proactively seek to learn about competing products.
  • Provide technical support to other areas of the business when required.
  • Design and develop new products and product improvements, balancing innovative engineering design, functional requirements and aesthetic appeal
  • with product usability, cost effectiveness, ease of manufacture, installation and
  • Assist the commercial team in creating quotations for potential new projects.

Skills & Experience

We are seeking recent examples of the below points:

  • A demonstrable eye for the creation of aesthetic, ergonomic designs for HMI applications.
  • At least 3 years’ industry experience in development of products and plastic enclosures for harsh environments.
  • Familiarity with injection moulding techniques and materials to achieve cost effective designs suitable for use in their target environment.
  • Familiarity with or awareness of display technologies and assembly techniques, for example optical bonding techniques and processes.
  • Experience of thermal management techniques for electronic assemblies.
  • Degree educated in mechanical or product design (or related) or long track record in related field.
  • Experience of environmental test plan development and familiarity with compliance testing requirements
  • Ability to work with design teams and contractors across the globe.
  • ‘Self-starter’ capable of working with minimal guidance and solving problems using available resources.

Desired Attributes

  • Ability to review designs and provide constructive feedback across a global team.
  • Ability to work closely with cross functional engineering team.
  • Experience in working within an ISO9001 environment.

You will then work to develop a strategy and implement marketing campaigns to support those objectives using multiple channels including paid and social to generate inbound leads and nurture those to qualified leads for our sales team.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to put into practice market research and pricing strategy techniques, digital marketing techniques, creating, reviewing & managing campaigns. Plus working on adhoc projects such as a new ecommerce site helping to make it a success for business growth. This is a varied role and will incorporate a variety of functions including:

  • Spotting new opportunities, making recommendations and implementing them
  • Contributing to & evolving marketing strategy as well as developing tactical campaigns

What will you be doing?

What skills are required?

We would expect the candidate to be able to demonstrate:

  • At least 3 years’ industry experience in electronic hardware and / or system design.
  • Degree educated in electronic design (or related) or long track record in related field.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing embedded single board computers, ideally with NXP i.MX family processors.
  • Experience with smaller microcontroller based systems ideally using STM32 or similar devices.
  • Experience of EMC emission mitigation techniques and familiarity with compliance testing requirements.
  • Experience in circuit design using Altium Designer to produce well structured and maintainable schematics and PCB designs.
  • Experience of board bring up with ability to debug new and existing hardware to component level and resolve problems.
  • Digital and Analogue design experience to support sensor integration.

You should be a ‘self-starter’ capable of working with minimal guidance and solving problems using available resources, and have the ability to understand software and hardware integration requirements.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ability to review hardware designs and provide constructive feedback across a global team.
  • Ability to work closely with embedded software team.
  • Confident in the use of spectrum analysers, logic analysers, oscilloscopes and test equipment
  • Experience of CAN bus protocol.
  • Experience in working within an ISO9001 environment.
  • Some experience of radio data communication and associated approval processes.

In return we offer a salary of £35.000 to £45,000 per year depending on experience, plus benefits including:

Shipping & Fulfilment Administrator

What will you be doing?
